Fort Custer Time Trial Race Report

6th place with a time of 1:11:41, which is almost exactly what I did last year. I raced sport since I didn't renew my license this year. All Tailwind events I'll race sport.

I was averaging 14.2 mph going into the last four miles. My legs were screaming and my HR was high, but I had it in me to maintain that pace for the last four miles. Then it appeared all my mtb skills left my body. I started shifting bad and couldn't hold any momentum in most of the Green loop. I was so frustrated watching my average speed drop. It's one thing if it's related to physical conditioning, but to lose it over stupid things like shifting and momentum is ridiculous. I consider my shifting skills to be a significant strength. When I crossed the finish line I just wanted to throw my bike in the woods. However, it's not the arrow, it's the Indian. Still feels better to blame the bike.

I've never experienced this type of issue during a race. This stuff should be like a golf swing. Don't think about it just do it. Then I started thinking about it trying to fix it, the worse things got. One of the most frustrating races I've ever had.

I also heard people ran into horses on the trail. I've had this happen twice but not this year. I don't understand why they need to go on the trail during a race. You can't miss all the signs. Last year or the year before, I heard a horse got spooked and threw the rider. That is so dangerous. Just wait an hour or two and the trail is yours. It's also not fun riding through horse shit. This is the last year, the DNR is finally separating the groups since they can't play nice.
