Last Stand Xterra Results

Completed the first of two Xterra's this past weekend.  The results were mixed.  I swam MUCH faster than I thought I would.  I did the half mile in 13 minutes, which ranked me 14th in my age group.  The bike portion, which was roughly 12 miles on the Fort Custer trail, was good and bad.  It was a little congested at first and then again at the end.   I ranked 11th in the bike so I was sorta happy with that.  I thought my rank would have been better because when I entered T2, there were hardly any bikes hanging.

Then came the 4 mile trail run (on the Green loop).  I crashed and burned here.  This is very disappointing since I've trained a lot on trail running.  My right calf muscle just tightened to the point that I really couldn't even get to a  pace of 8 minutes.  It didn't cramp, it just seized up. Then about two miles in I rolled my ankle.  That put me in a nice limp the remaining distance.  Very disappointed in the run.

My transition times were okay.  I wasn't at my normal mach 1 'in and out' pace, thus there was probable a minute total I could have shaved off.

Anyways, it was a beautiful day, not a cloud in the sky and 82 degrees.  Water was cold at 60 degrees, but after the first 10 feet that didn't matter.

Next week is Grand Rapids Triathlon (Olympic distance).
