1x9

For the next couple of races I am going to run on a 1x9.  I don’t think I’ll need my other rings until I get to my first solo 6 hour race or if I do the Boyne Mountain race.  All I did was tighten down my FDR and remove the shifting pods.  Shaved a lot of weight off my bike as well.  It is goofy looking at my handlebars and seeing nothing there.  Looks so plain now.

Note: The bolts are red so I can distinguish them from the regular bolts.

  1. you might have trouble with the chain hoping off, even with the front der in place. I suggest to slide the front der down, to get it closer to the ring and maybe even remove as many links from your chain as you can to reduce the bouncing off.

i did 1 x 9 a couple of years back and 32 was too small, 34 or 36 was much better. but loosing my chain 3 or 4 times a race was NOT a benefit... so back to 3x9 (but reducing weight is always a nice bonus.)

good luck with the set up and your races.
