Sufferfest Data Analysis

I haven’t really started interval season yet, although it’s coming up soon.  Still cranking away the base miles, mostly in swimming.  As cycling starts to pick up, I’m getting starting to look at some of my limiters on the bike.  The last decent ride I had with a power meter was about a month ago.  That was for the Sufferfest Fight Club video.

Below is a screen shot of my quadrant analysis from the Fight Club.

The top left quadrant (Quad II) is high force and low cadence.  This is typical of steep hills and mountain biking.  The bottom left quadrant is recovery.  Per the QA, I spent 32% of my time in Quad II and 52% of my time in recovery.  The distribution I’m fine with, I’d just like the yellow dots to be higher in Quad II, thus generating more power.  Below is the scatter plot for the same workout:

What this plot is showing you is my cadence/power relationship.  The circle in the middle is my average cadence and power for that workout.  I typically have a slower cadence, that is a product of my mountain biking past.  The takeaway from this plot is getting that circle to move little higher and to the right.  To do this, I need to do some more speed work so my body get’s use to a higher cadence/power level.

I’ll do this workout out in a couple of weeks.  Until then, I’ll do some high cadence speed work and try to break my habit of mashing the pedals.
