2011 Race season 99% in the bag

Other than Iceman on November 5, the race season is over.

Triathlon season went well with PB’s in every event except Reeds Lake Triathlon. It was everything I could do just to finish that race.  Bed ridden day and a half after the race.  Not sure what happened.  Mountain bike racing was blah.  Triathlon training really takes it’s toll on my mountain bike performance.  I’ve talked with other triathletes that have made the switch from MTB racing to Triathlons and they say the same thing. Two of them went back to MTB racing.  Triathlon training is split between three disciplines so it can be difficult to train specifically for MTB racing, which requires more high force/low cadence training.

Did have a new addition to my stable: 2011 Felt B12.  Upgrades include 3T Aura Pro Bars, SRAM S80 front wheel (running Assault PowerTap rear w/disc) and Adamo Road Saddle.  Also added full RED drivetrain, most of which is OEM. Nothing new on the mountain bike side of things other than those Mavic SLR wheels, but that was a bit ago.

2012 holds some new challenges, including my first half-iron man races.  No real concerns about the swim or bike, but I do have concerns about the run.  At least I have a complete off-season to focus on that.  I’m also hoping to achieve PB’s in all my triathlons, which is really dependent on my running performance. As for mountain biking, well I’m still debating if I should stay in Sport or continue on in Expert.  Other than Yankee and Fort, I won’t race MMBA CPS for obvious reasons, especially after the last fiasco.  So if I race Tailwind, I have to fork out more money for the license. I have a USAT license but that doesn’t help things.  I may wait and see how I do at the Barry Roubaix and Yankee Springs TT.  I can race Expert in both, especially Yankee since it’s only two laps.  We shall see how it goes.

Some random pictures from some of the races.
