This isn't my class, but I was reviewing all the results from today's Yankee Spring TT. I couldn't help but notice this 47:47 minute time for a Sport level racer. His lap would have been the fifth fastest of ALL racers, which includes Elite. Granted, Expert and above do two laps, still, there is NO reason somebody doing a 47 minute lap should be in Sport. I know the bike shop owners pretty well and wouldn't be surprised if they forced him to move up. Regardless, I would feel like a real jackass if I came in with that time. But, I know there are people out there that need the ego boost.

Hey Guppie,
ReplyDeleteI don't need an ego boost and I don't feel like a jackass. The bike shop isn't forcing me to move up. Thanks for taking time out of your day to insult me. This is the first race of the season, I've never had a such a gap between me and all other sport class riders before. last year was the first year I did any series races and I had no idea that losing 20lbs would make such a big difference this year (I could only dream it would). Yankee is my home course and I know it like the back of my hand. I signed up early so that I wouldn't have to pass anyone. I killed it. Please, if you are going to make disparaging remarks about someone on the "information super highway" allow them the courtesy to defend themselves first.....or at least do some research and see what they've done in the past. I plan on racing at Custer and typically I don't do well there. I plan on moving up to expert if I kill it there too. I look forward to moving to expert but I'm no going to do it if I can't consistently beat sport class competition.

ReplyDeleteDont get me wrong. I'd love a sub 48 minute lap. However if yankee is your home course then that makes things worse. Much like you, I could draw a map of yankee from memory. I know my timing at every check point on the trail. I know when I'm slow I know when Im fast. You should as well. It's one thing to drop a 50-51 minute lap. Another to go sub 48. You should have known better.
ReplyDeleteI'm racing Custer as well, but I'm racing expert. Historically I've owned Custer, but the third lap is a killer. Regardless, I accept the challenge.
Congrats on losing 20 pounds.
Whatever, My fastest lap time before the time trial was just under 55 so there was no way of knowing. A week prior to the TT I rode with Mark who took second place and he was on my tail for the 1/2 loop we did together. You are wrong, I had no idea. I exceeded my expectations, had a great day, and a great race...that is all. I'm not going to enter expert class without even knowing what I can do....without ever racing in expert class....at the beginning of the season. That is absurd. I know what it looks like but I also know the truth and you have all the information and history in front of you now so if you can't see it then that would explain things from my end. Where were you heroes when I got my ass kicked by the sandbagger of the century at Peak to Peak in October?
ReplyDeleteWhy is entering Expert absurd? Do you think I had any idea how the extra laps at a race pace would affect me. The jump from Sport to Expert is the most difficult jump. Riders are faster and the races are longer. That's still no excuse to sandbag sport.
ReplyDeleteYou have the facts yet you still insist that I sandbagged? I just want to make sure that you've seen last years results and have the opinion that I knowingly raced below my level. This is what you are accusing me of and when I see you in person I would like to be absolutely certain that you are calling me a jackass and a sandbagger.
ReplyDeleteYour results show that you should be expert. Unless I'm reading it wrong, you placed very high in all but one CPS race. Yes I do believe you sandbagged sport.
ReplyDeleteI'll be at Custer.
Gents,
ReplyDeleteI know the accused very well. He blew our minds with his ride. I do see both sides. He killed it for sure. If he kills it at Custer (there won't be any checking-up....for fear of a tap on the butt and a "on your left"), I bet he will bump up. I do understand why he is in Sport tho....
I also understand why you are riding expert, Guppie. And that's totally cool. You both have your reasons, and they both have merit, IMO.
By the way....sounds like you won't have to worry about that brutal 3rd lap at the Ft this year....expert is doing two loops, according to MMBA and the ft folks. They were originally going to make sport one lap, but that's been changed back to two. Guess we'll see.....
We were PMing on MMBA a few weeks back. You said if I didn't hear back, you'd probably be banned??
Let's enjoy the trails and the awesome opportunities that our state gives us to race our mountain bikes!
-Mark
Heh mark. I believe the Custer 2 lap is for SS racers.
ReplyDeleteHe didn't kill it at Yankee, he destroyed it. I've hit 47 minutes once on that trail and almost required being airlifted to Spectrum. I'm coming from the perspective of knowing my body all too well. I knew I could do 47 minutes, but I also knew what it would take to hit it. Maybe I've just be racing long to have more specific goals.
You are correct sir....3 laps it is. I mis read.
ReplyDeleteYankee was perfect today....rode from my place with Don. Great day for a ride.
Good luck at Ft Guppie. See you at the Xterra too? Can't wait for that! No sandbagging there.
