Heart Rate Monitor Training Do’s/Don’ts

From Triathletemag.com August 2010.  By Lance Watson and Dan Smith

DON’T use your age or maximum HR to establish HR training zones.
DO  Establish your own HR zones based on your lactate threshold (LT).
DO purchase a HR monitor with features you are comfortable with.
DON’T over analyze the results of your workouts to the point of ruining your confidence or training experience.
DO use perceived effort to validate HR data.
DON’T ignore your zones when following your training plan.  (don’t over do on recovery days)
DO learn what your LT effort feels like (pain).
